Move to simplify IT return form

Published May 12, 2006

ISLAMABAD, May 11: The government is considering a proposal to further simplify all columns in annexes to income tax return forms in the next budget.

An official told Dawn on Thursday that no major changes would be introduced in the single-page return form except some minor changes.

The CBR had introduced a single-page return form for individuals and associations of persons (AoPs) with relevant annexes to facilitate the taxpayers.

According to the official, the decision for amendments was taken following the analysis of the returns filed by individuals and AoPs for the tax year 2004, which indicated that most of the columns, primarily meant for computer requirement and for use as audit tools, were not filled by the taxpayers.

It was observed that the income tax returns filed last year were deficient in address, telephone contacts, and residential addresses etc.
