KARACHI, May 10: The Sindh High Court on Wednesday directed the federal law officer to submit definite statement regarding whereabouts of a detainee, who is alleged to have been detained by military intelligence since 2002.Mohammad Sadiq alleged that his son-in-law Mohammad Ramazan was detained by the Military Intelligence in Hyderabad Cantonment.

Petitioner's counsel Abdul Waheed submitted that since 2002, after undergoing the sentence under Foreigners’ Act, law-enforcement agencies were transferring custody of the detainee from one place to another.

He said that the petitioner was failing in seeking remedy in spite of filing petitions one after other but whenever notice is served to respondents, they transfer the custody to other law enforcement agency.

The petitioner alleged that his son-in-law was still in custody of Maj Abdul Qadir Mehar alias Maj Abdul Majeed Lashari of MI Hyderabad Cantonment.

The court was prayed in an application to direct Maj Abdul Qadir Mehar alias Major Abdul Majeed Lashari of MI Hyderabad Cantonment to personally appear before the court for recording his statement regarding detention of petitioner's son-in-law.

Standing counsel Ziauddin Nasir waived notice on application as matter was taken up before SHC's division bench, comprising Justice Khilji Arif Hussain and Justice Mohammad Athar Saeed.

He sought time to file definite statement.—PPI
