KARACHI, May 10: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim on Wednesday warned that bungling in allotment of government land would not be tolerated and any officer found involved in this malpractice would be taken to the task.

Presiding over a meeting of senior officers of the Board of Revenue (BoR) and all EDOs and DDOs of Revenue, he asked the revenue officers to protect government land in Karachi and other districts of Sindh and cancel all bogus allotments. He asked them to provide justice to people and facilitate them in matters related to land and property.

He said all bogus allotments on both sides of the Superhighway between Karachi and Hyderabad be cancelled and the land be got vacated from bogus allottees. He said the revenue record of Karachi should be corrected and preserved. He asked the EDOs and DDOs to personally conduct surveys so that all bogus allotments should be unearthed.

He said the British rulers during the colonial era had improved the revenue department with a lot of hard work, but later this vital department was made inactive. He said that tapedars in Sindh did not follow correct method of estimating crops, therefore, the government had no correct facts and figures about the crops.

He said he had kept the port folio of revenue department with him to check corruption and redress people's complaints against this department. He said complaints against EDOs were still pouring in from various areas. He said the EDOs should improve their performance and help eliminate complaints.

Dr Arbab instructed that an inspection branch should be set up in the revenue department and extended to district level. He said that tapedars and mukhtiarkars be made responsible for correct crop assessment. He said that discipline in the revenue department should be maintained at all costs.

He announced that to improve the performance of the revenue department, transfer and posting of EDOs on political grounds should be discouraged. He said people of Sindh were facing great hardship regarding getting agriculture passbooks, transfer of properties and other related matters. He said snap action would be taken on complaints of the citizens.

Dr Arbab announced setting up of an inspection and vigilance section in the revenue department. He said that the record of each Deh would be made available in Taluka cells. He said the state of land record in Sindh should be improved and it should be computerized.

He also said that the Sindh record of rights should also be computerized. He said that furniture and racks should be provided to mukhtiarkars in all taluka offices. He asked the revenue officers to maximize revenue collection so that finances of Sindh could be improved. He said the new policy of allotting non-agricultural land in Sindh would stay.

Marwat: Sindh Minister Irfanullah Khan Marwat said on Wednesday that all 'legal' goths of Karachi would be given leases.

The minister said this while visiting Sikander Goth and offering condolence there over the killing of a villager during demolition operation in the village.

He said that according to the report of the goth committee, there were 803 old villages in Karachi and 380 out of them were still deprived of lease facility. He said all goths, whose paper work was complete, would be given lease rights.—PPI
