MULTAN, May 9: Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication Awais Leghari is working against the objectives of President Gen Pervez Musharraf and ruling PML leadership, who are trying their best to unite all factions on one platform. This was stated by senior parliamentarian and chief whip of the ruling party in National Assembly, Sardar Nasrullah Khan Dreshak, when asked to comment on the reported allegations made by the federal minister Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari against him and his ally in the politics of Rajanpur district, Sher Ali Khan Mazari.

Awais Leghari, also a senior vice-president of the ruling party, had alleged in a recent statement issued in Rajanpur that Nasrullah Dreshak and Sher Ali Mazari were working against the ‘interest of the country’.

“Disloyal leaders with the assistance of district administration were creating problems for the PML in Rajanpur,” he was quoted to have said.

Sardar Dreshak said that the minister’s comments clearly showed his lack of commitment to the party cause. “His statement is immature and childish and, therefore, not worthy of anybody’s serious consideration,” he added.

Meanwhile, in a written statement, Sher Ali Mazari said that there was a need to go beyond the minister’s statement. “The real facts are that the Leghari group put him (Awais Leghari) in-charge of the local body elections in DG Khan and Rajanpur districts in 2005 in which he suffered a crushing defeat. In Rajanpur, the candidate for district nazim slot of the Leghari group got only 90 votes against 363 secured by the Dreshak-Mazari alliance; while in the recent Public Safety Commission elections Leghari group got nothing.”

Sher Ali Mazari is the son of veteran politician Sardar Sher Baz Khan Mazari and nephew of Nawab Akbar Khan Bugti.
