KARACHI, May 9: Police on Tuesday shot dead a suspected bandit and arrested his accomplice, who turned out to be a policeman. Police said a suspicious car (AJL-884) was spotted near the Sindh Government Hospital in Khokhrapar. When a police party tried to intercept the vehicle the suspects tried to escape by opening fire at the police.

Police returned the fire, killing a bandit identified as Mumtaz and arrested Shaukat, a sub-inspector, in wounded condition. Police said the SI was posted in Naushroferoze.

KILLED: Police on Tuesday evening found the bullet-riddled body of a young man in the DHA.The victim was identified from his NIC as Ismail. A purse containing Rs15,000 was also found in his possession.

The body was dumped in a deserted area of Phase VIII, the ASP of Darakhshan said. He said that about half an hour earlier, police had found latest model Land-cruiser abandoned in the Gizri police limits.

“We found bullets, empties and bloodstains on the vehicle’s seats. The vehicle was later taken to the police station. All the evidence showed that someone was killed in the vehicle,” the ASP added.

Police informed the family of the victim and sent the body to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for postmortem examination.

ACCIDENT: The body of a road accident awaited arrival of the police for legal formalities for well over nine hours since Tuesday morning as the place where the accident occurred could not be ascertained between the different police stations till the evening.

Relatives of the deceased Mohammad Husain, 25, told Dawn that the accident occurred at the bypass road linking Baloch Colony to Korangi Industrial Area, when a minibus overturned. Husain standing in the gate of minibus died on the spot.

Husain’s younger brother brought his body to the JPMC at around 8am. As the boy was new in the city, he didn’t know the exact place where the accident occurred and failed to convey the place of accident to police.

Their ordeal ended in the evening when finally the Baloch Colony police turned up at the hospital and completed the legal paperwork.
