KARACHI, May 9: On the call of nationalist parties alliance, a complete strike was observed in major goths (villages) of the city on Tuesday.

The strike call was given by Sindh Qaumi Ittehad to protest against the demolition of old villages.

In Gulshan-i-Iqbal Town, localities like Safoora Goth, Sachal Goth, Seeta Goth, Ayub Goth, Bilawal Shah Noorani Goth, Marooara Goth, Abdullah Shah Ghazi Goth, Bhitaiabad and Leemon Gabol Goth remained completely shut. Traffic was off the roads and tiers were burnt at some places.

All shops on the University Road from Safoora Goth to NIPA Chowrangi were shut.

Angry villagers held corners meetings and demos against the razing of villages and raised slogans against the city government. Heavy contingents of police were patrolling in the area to avert any law and order situation.—PPI
