Former US State Department spokesperson Matthew Miller has told British broadcaster Sky News that it is “without a doubt true that Israel has committed war crimes”.
Speaking on the broadcaster’s ‘Trump 100’ podcast, Miller said that while serving at the department under former US president Joe Biden, he outlined frequent disagreements within the administration over Israel’s conduct in the enclave.
“You are a spokesperson for the president, the administration, and you espouse the positions of the administration. And when you’re not in the administration, you can just give your own opinions,” he said.
“There were disagreements all along the way about how to handle policy. Some of those were big disagreements, some of those were little disagreements,” he added.
When asked if he thought what was happening in Gaza was genocide, the former spokesperson replied: “I don’t think it’s a genocide, but I think it is without a doubt true that Israel has committed war crimes.”
