KARACHI: City Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has announced that a complete ban on plastic bags would be enforced in the metropolis.

On May 5, the Sindh government had imposed a comprehensive ban on all types of plastic shopping bags throughout the province, effective from 15 June.

He said this while inaugurating four public parks in Orangi Town — Shaheed Aamir Bhutto Family Park, Masjid Khizra Park, Meraj Nabi Park and Rehmat Chowk Park — as well as a newly constructed road in Nazimabad No. 4.

Speaking on the occasion, the mayor emphasised the city administration’s commitment to resolving public issues. “Our primary responsibility is to serve the citizens,” he said.

Mr Wahab announced that fifty new parks would be built this year to provide breathing spaces in a city that has become a “concrete jungle.” He encouraged the formation of neighbourhood committees to oversee park maintenance.
