KARACHI: The Pakistan Padel Ranking Cup commenced here on Saturday amidst significant fanfare here at Sport On, marking a major event for the rapidly growing sport in the country.Being organised by the Pakistan Padel Federation, the event boasts competitive action across men’s, women’s, and boys U-14 categories.

The tournament featured a strong turnout with 24 teams battling in the men’s event, eight teams in the women’s event and 12 teams in the boys U-14 category.

In the women’s section, Tribe emerged victorious in two matches as they edged past MUV 6-5 while also defeating Padel Plays 6-2.

Control X Power registered convincing 6-0 wins over both Padel Twins and Sisters Squad, Strikers secured a narrow 6-5 victory against Padel Pals while MUV bounced back to beat Strikers 6-3.

Earlier, Sisters Squad opened with a superb 6-0 win over Gilgit-Baltistan and Padel Twins also secured a 6-1 win against Gilgit-Baltistan.

In the boys U-14 category, Acers started strong as they overpowered Faisalabad Panthers 6-3 before outplaying Young Star 6-2.

In other matches of the same category played on Saturday, Shaheens beat Echo Smash 6-2. Echo Smash later fell to Hayya Eizer 6-4. Super Pumped thrashed Pardesi X 6-1 while Allawala blanked A2 Brothers 6-0.

In the men’s event, host team Sport On impressed with a 6-1 triumph against Hoppers while Balagam and Padel Master both registered clean-sheet wins (6-0) against Padel Star and Super Pibes.

Katch Brothers, Team Parallel, Maverick, Tigers, Zinars and Gar Gala also secured opening-day victories.
