Rizwan, Alam in final

KARACHI, May 8: Third seed Rizwan Shamsi was stretched to limits by un-seeded Tahir Gul on his way to making the 35 plus singles final of the second National Seniors tennis championship at the Karachi Gymkhana on Monday.

After dropping the opener 2-6, Rizwan bounced back to claim the following two sets 6-3, 7-5 in the two and a half hour battle.

He now meets Alam Afzal Janjua who accounted for Akbar H. Khan in similar fashion 2-6, 6-0, 6-2.

35 plus singles (semifinals):

Alam Afzal Janjua bt Akbar H. Khan 2-6, 6-0, 6-2; Rizwan Shamsi bt Tahir Gul 2-6, 6-3, 7-5.

35 plus doubles (quarterfinal):

Alam Afzal Janjua-Eijaz Sarhadi bt Shafiqur Rehman-Jamil Khan 6-2, 6-2.

Mixed doubles:

Saima Khan-Javed bt Jaffer Hasan-Safina Hameed 6-1, 5-7, 7-6; M. Iltifat-Sehr Khawaja bt Eijaz Sarhadi-Michiko Domichi 6-2, 6-4.
