GUJRANWALA, May 8: The anti-terrorism court No 2 handed down 10 years’ imprisonment and death to four convicts on six counts with Rs400,000 fine here on Monday. Convicts Shafiq alias Shafiqa, Abdul Rauf alias Rufi, Tahir alias Tara and Arif Ali had killed Javed Yaqoob, Aslam, Salim, Afzal alias Kaka, Tasawar Husain and Khalidur Rehman and injured Nadim and Miraj Din on September 24, 2000, in Narowal city over the issue of forced (Jagga) tax.
The court sentenced them to imprisonment in 2001 but the Lahore High Court, during the hearing of their appeal, set aside the decision and directed the court to retry the case under section 302 PPC.
EXECUTION DELAYED: The same court delayed the execution of three killers for 10 days on request of complainant here on Monday.
The court had fixed May 9 for execution of ex-patwari Ilyas, his brother Ghulam Abbas and Muhammad Asif for murdering five people near Rahwali.
However, the execution was stopped when complainant Noor Muhammad told the court that an agreement for compromise was under process.
The court accepted his application and delayed the execution till May 19.
It may be recalled that the court delayed the execution for the second time.
