LAHORE: The Pakistan People’s Party has written to the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) against alleged rigging by the government in the PP-52 (Sialkot) by-election.

A letter sent by the PPP’s Central Punjab Information Secretary Shahzad Saeed Cheema requests the ECP to take immediate notice of the alleged rigging by the PML-N government in the PP-52 by-poll.

The letter accuses the government of announcing development works in the provincial assembly constituency after the announcement of the by-poll schedule, terming it a blatant violation of the code of conduct.

Mr Cheema said such actions are laying the foundation for the rigged election and victory of the government candidate, which the ECP and its monitoring team should stop by checking the government “bribes” in the constituency.

He said the PPP is not going to leave the electoral arena because of such tactics, urging the ECP to ensure a clean, transparent, fair and impartial election.
