BAHAWALPUR: Islamia University Bahawalpur (IUB) Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Muhammad Kamran has ordered a probe into a dance event organised at the IUB’s mathematics department the other day.

The event came under scrutiny after a video of it went viral on social media, sparking public criticism and protests from parents. The video, reportedly from the department’s annual dinner function, showed girls wearing face masks dancing on stage.

According to an official notification (a copy of which is available with Dawn), the VC has constituted a committee to investigate the matter.

The committee will be chaired by Prof. Dr. Rubina Bhatti, dean of the faculty of social sciences. Other members include Prof. Dr. Muhammad Amjad, dean of the faculty of engineering, and Bilal Arshad, additional registrar, who will also serve as the committee’s secretary.

The committee has been directed to submit a detailed report on the incident and to propose standard operating procedures (SOPs) to prevent such occurrences in the future.

In a press release, the VC said no negligence would be tolerated in upholding the university’s code of ethics and maintaining discipline. He assured that, following the inquiry, those found responsible will face action based on the committee’s findings.
