ISLAMABAD: Pakistan and Turkey called in a joint communique today [May 21] for resolving the Jammu and Kashmir question in accordance with U.N. resolutions and the inalienable right of the state peoples to self-determination. This will remove a source of tension in the area (South Asia) and pave the way for constructive co-operation amongst the countries of the Sub-continent, said the communique simultaneously issued in Ankara and Islamabad on the conclusion of talks in the Turkish capital between Minister of State for Defence and Foreign Affairs Aziz Ahmed and Turkish Foreign Minister Ihsan Sabri Caglayangil. The communique said the two Ministers … pointed out the importance of continuing the talks … in various fields between Pakistan and the countries of the region with a view to normalising relations among them and thus paving the way for durable peace and security in South Asia.

[Meanwhile as reported by news agencies from Teheran,] unidentified gunmen today [May 21] shot dead two American Air Force officers serving with the Iranian Army. … The Government … blamed “terrorists” and said they “found their evil inspiration from outside Iran’s borders and serve anti-Iranian causes”.
