ISLAMABAD, May 7: Inter-provincial Coordination Minister Salim Saifullah Khan on Sunday held a meeting with Balochistan Chief Minister Jam Muhammad Yousuf to launch an initiative to resolve the crisis in the province.

During the meeting, the minister expressed determination to work for the implementation of recommendations prepared by two parliamentary sub-committees on the issue.

Accompanied by PML secretary-general Mushahid Hussain Syed, Mr Saifullah said dialogue would also be held with other political leaders and tribal chieftains.

The chief minister welcomed the initiative launched to resolve the Balochistan problem.

A parliamentary committee on Balochistan was set up in 2004 under PML president Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain to resolve the issue through political dialogue.

The committee was split into three sub-committees headed by Leader of House in Senate Wasim Sajjad, Mr Mushahid Hussain and federal minister Sardar Yar Muhammad Rind.

The Wasim Sajjad sub-committee failed to finalise its report while Mushahid and Rind sub-committees prepared recommendations on Balochistan’s grievances towards its share in federal resources and jobs.

However, none of the reports has so far been implemented in letter and in spirit causing resentment in the province.
