KARACHI, May 7: The City Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, on Sunday said the city government would earmark more funds in the coming budget for Karachi’s goths to further develop them and bring them at par with other developed areas of the city.
Talking to journalists, he said the city government was providing basic facilities in 325 Goths of Karachi. He said the provision of basic facilities like water, education and health were the rights of all citizens.
He said during the last six months, the city government had not touched any village because it wanted to further develop these localities.
He said what happened in Sikander Goth was a court matter, as some houses and shops of the Goth had been built on the land of Al-Mashriq Housing Society.
The society had moved the court and the court gave a verdict in its favour, he said.
He said the city government had only provided machinery for razing these constructions on the order of the court, and was not directly related to it.
EDUCATION: The city government has allocated Rs200 million for strengthening the education system, selecting 55 schools as model schools for the purpose.
The city government has also decided to take legal action against teachers who are irregular in their duties.
The decisions were taken in a meeting chaired by the City Nazim, Syed Mustafa Kamal, held to review the education system. It was also attended by the EDO Education and the chairman and members of Educational Committee in the City Council, said a city government statement on Sunday.
Addressing the meeting, the city nazim said, “It is my dream that every child gets quality education.”
He said the city government wanted to set up model schools in the city where children will have all facilities for co-curricular activities besides acquiring quality education.
“Besides ensuring availability of good teachers, we will provide them quality food and uniforms free of cost,” he said.
He asked the citizens to help in improving the education sector. Many people within the city have contacted the city government to join its campaign for improvement and promotion of education, said the statement.
They want to contribute their services, expertise, money and time.
The EDO Education told the meeting that 55 schools had been identified, which can be developed as model schools. He said a report in this regard would be submitted after calculating the cost of the project.—APP/PPI
