KOHAT/MANSEHRA: Eight people, including two women, were killed and 13 others were injured in separate road accidents in Kohat and Torghar districts on Saturday, the police and rescuers said.

Four passengers were burnt to death and 12 sustained serious injuries when a Rawalpindi-bound passenger coach caught fire after colliding with a car in Bisal area of Kohat on Saturday.

Rescue 1122 dispatched teams after receiving information about the incident.

The rescuers retrieved the bodies and the injured from the torched coach and shifted them to hospital, rescue emergency officer Amir Nawaz told Dawn.

The deceased were identified as Yousuf, Shams Ali, Shakir Khan, and Kabir Khan, all hailing from Bannu district, while all the injured were from Karak district.

Meanwhile, four people, including two women, were killed and another sustained critical injuries when a tractor-trolley plunged into a ravine in Chaer area of Torghar district on Saturday.

“Bodies and the injured were retrieved from the gorge and shifted to a nearby health facility,” deputy commissioner Safdar Azam Qureshi, who visited the accident site, told reporters.

The tractor-trolley, which was loaded with sand, was en route to Chaer village from Judbah, the district headquarters, when one of its tyres detached on a rugged stretch of the road, causing the driver to lost control over the vehicle, as a result it plunged into the deep ravine.

Rescue 1122 personnel and local residents rushed to the scene and, after nearly two hours of hectic efforts, retrieved bodies and transported them to the Civil Hospital Judbah.

According to eyewitnesses, the driver sustained serious injuries and was referred to the Ayub Medical Complex, Abbottabad, where his condition was said to be critical.
