LARKANA, May 6: A team of the Sindh Blood Transfusion Authority on Saturday conducted raids in Shahdadkot town and served notices to seven blood banks to closed down.

The team comprised SBTA’s assistant programme manager Dr. Dileep Kumar and focal person Dr Farooq Soomro.

Dr. Dileep told Dawn that of 30 unregistered laboratories and blood banks operating in contravention of the SBTA rules in the Qambar-Shahdadkot district, six were raided.

They are: Asif Laboratoy, Bhittai Laboratory, Fahad Laboratory, Sindh Laboratory, Sunail Laboratory and Insan Hamdard Sangat Blood Bank.

He said that all laboratories did not fulfil the criteria of the SBTA and were given final notice to close business.

He said that the laboratories would not be allowed to run business without meeting rules of the SBTA.

He said that not a single qualified pathologist was available in Shahdadkot and these blood banks and pathology laboratories had been doing their business without any hindrance.

One laboratory running gory business in the name of Jeay Sindh alias Sindhu was granted 15 day time for registering with the SBTA.

The process would continue under the directives of Dr Zahid Ansari, the programme manager of the SBTA. Dr Dileep said that now raids would be conducted in Warah, Qambar and Nasirabad talukas of the Qambar-Shahdadkot district.

LCCI: Leaders of the Larkana Chamber of Commerce and Industry on Saturday demanded that the government should transfer drug inspector Ghulam Ali Lakho from the district.

Speaking at a meeting, they said that if the drug inspector was not removed, the traders would be compelled to shut their business in protest.

LCCI president Azam Shaikh presided over the meeting.
