LAHORE: A new model pharmacy has been established in the outpatient department (OPD) of the Lahore General Hospital (LGH) to ensure the provision of high-quality free medicines to patients.

This facility was inaugurated by Ameeruddin Medical College (AMC) Principal Prof Dr Al-Fareed Zafar on Monday. During the ceremony, he appreciated the efforts of LGH MS Prof Dr Faryad Hussain and his team for the initiative.

OPD Director Dr Adnan Masood, Chief Pharmacist Ameer Shahid and other health professionals were present.

Prof Zafar stated that patients could get quality medicines free of cost from the pharmacy from 8am and 8pm which would significantly reduce their difficulties and waiting time.

MS Dr Hussain told the principal that seven counters had been established at the pharmacy for convenience of patient groups, including senior citizens, persons with disabilities, male and female patients and government employees.

Dr Zafar emphasized that medicines supplied by the government were a trust from the Punjab government and instructed that a complete record of their distribution must be maintained. He also directed the chief pharmacist to ensure daily communication with doctors in emergency and indoor departments as well as the OPD regarding the available stock of medicines to facilitate accurate prescriptions.

Dr Faryad Hussain shared that over 3,000 patients visited the OPD daily to get treatment from senior doctors free of charge.
