LAHORE: The recent rain spell across Lahore and other districts of Punjab has brought the much-needed relief from the scorching heat, turning the weather pleasant.

According to the Regional Meteorological Centre, Lahore, data, light-to-moderate rain was recorded in many areas of the country over the past 24 hours, with Garhi Dupatta, receiving 3.5mm, Kotli 3mm, and Narowal 2.4mm rain.

Lahore received three distinct rain spells between 8:35am and 1:04pm, with Jail Road and Qurtaba Chowk recording the highest rainfall of 11mm each. Other areas, including Lakshmi Chowk (10mm), Wasa Gulberg head office (4mm), and Pani Wala Talab (5 mm), also experienced significant showers.

The average rainfall in the Lahore region was recorded at 3.4mm.

The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) confirmed that this rain spell is expected to continue until Saturday (tomorrow), further alleviating the intense heatwave conditions.

The PDMA DG advised people to remain cautious and especially avoid going near electricity poles, hanging wires and unstable structures.

In response to the weather conditions, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has directed Lahore Water and Sanitation Authority (Wasa) to ensure all major roads and underpasses remain clear to maintain smooth traffic flow.

The PDMA control room is monitoring the situation round the clock, and urged people to contact the 1129 emergency helpline if needed.

For Friday, partly cloudy weather with rain, wind, thunderstorm has been forecast for Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat, Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Talagang, Mianwali, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujranwala, Gujarat, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Sheikhupura, Bhakkar, Layyah, Multan, Khanewal, Taunsa, Muzaffargarh, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur, Rahim Yar Khan, D.G. Khan, Rajanpur and surrounding areas.

Hailstorms may also occur at a few places during the period.

During the last 24 hours, rain, wind and thunderstorm occurred in Kashmir, Murree, Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot and Narowal districts. The weather remained dry in all other districts of Punjab.
