RAWALPINDI: Apparently to enforce traffic rules, the City Traffic Police have tasked every authorised officer/official with issuing 15 challans per day over traffic offences, saying a challan diary with less than the given number will not be accepted at all.
According to sources, a communication issued to the traffic police staff on Tuesday said: “All the traffic staff of the first and second shift must note that the challan diary with less than 15 challans per head will not be accepted at all. And the special report of challans will be presented to the police high-ups; therefore, follow it strictly.”
The mandatory task of five challans was also given to the traffic police staff for helmet violations with the direction to ensure compliance of the order from the police high-ups.
“And every person will meet the mark of five challans for helmet violations. And make sure the respect of police high-ups as well as of your own because orders are being issued repeatedly and you have not been taking it seriously,” the communication said.
When contacted, Additional Inspector General of Traffic Police Punjab Mirza Faran Baig said: “The idea of target challans does not exist, and we have not issued any such directives to the police.”
He said the concerned traffic police officer’s directions may serve as a means of encouraging the traffic police officers to work more aggressively to enforce traffic rules.
