DERA ISMAIL KHAN/LAKKI MARWAT: A vehicle of a police officer was damaged when an explosion occurred near Kulachi Mor in Daraban tehsil here on Tuesday.

The police said DSP Syed Murjan was on a routine duty when an attempt was made to target his vehicle. They said there were no casualties, though the vehicle was damaged in the blast.

Security forces and police cordoned off the area and launched an operation to apprehend the culprits.

Meanwhile, the district administration has launched a crackdown on illegal stone crushing plants in the area.

Paharpur assistant commissioner Dr Hamid led the crackdown and sealed four units for operating without legal documents.

According to the administration, the assistant director industries and other relevant officials also took part in the action.

It said that the operators were asked to present legal documentation, but due to their failure to do so, the plants were immediately sealed, and the owners were served notices under the relevant laws.

They were also instructed to cover their freight vehicles with tarpaulins to help control dust and reduce environmental pollution.

They were warned of strict legal action in case of non-compliance.

Dr Hamid emphasised that law enforcement, environmental protection, and public interest would be ensured at all costs.

Meanwhile, a police official was seriously injured when unidentified gunmen attacked him in Rehmatabad area of Karak district on Tuesday.

A police official identified the injured cop as Niaz Marjan and said that he had been recently deployed at the Latambar police station as a muharrir. He said that the gunmen opened fire on Marjan when he was on way to a local court to attend a hearing.

“The attackers fled the place while the wounded policeman was immediately shifted to a nearby hospital,” the official said.

He said that a large police contingent reached the venue of the attack and launched a search for the assailants.
