COLOMBO, May 4: Seven suspected Tamil Tiger guerillas were killed on Thursday in Jaffna when the Sri Lankan army opened fire at a group of men who were trying to throw grenades at soldiers manning a checkpoint.

“They came in two rickshaws in the afternoon and began to hurl the grenades. Soldiers at a military camp further away closed the roadway to block the escape of the attackers. Troops began firing as the men attempted to throw more grenades”, military spokesperson Brig Prasad Samarasinghe said.
