KARACHI: An assurance that the “many knots” of Pakistan-Bharat problems … will be gradually unravelled, was given by Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru shortly before he took off for New Delhi from Mauripur Airfield on Friday [April 28]… . He was accompanied by his daughter, son-in-law and other members of his party. The Prime Minister of Bharat told newsmen … that he was very happy to have come to Karachi. He said he would come again but no date for his next meeting with Mr Liaquat Ali Khan was yet fixed.

… In spite of the early hours, Karachi gave a hearty send-off to the Prime Minister of Bharat. Crowds were collected along the road side and they cheered Pandit Nehru as he drove by. … Pandit Nehru parried a question about Kashmir … by exclaiming: “What a big question?”

The Bharati Prime Minister said that “Muslims in Bharat, considering their number in the country, obviously play an important part in influencing elections.” He was replying to a correspondent … on the possibility of Bharat Muslims joining the Congress with a view to taking an increasing part in Bharati public affairs and influencing elections.
