PESHAWAR: Peshawar Electric Supply Company (Pesco) has issued notices to several government and semi-government organisation for non-payment of over Rs2 billion electricity dues.

A statement issued here said that the power utility has initiated a decisive action against government and semi-government departments with long-standing electricity dues.

It said that Pesco Chief Executive Officer Akhtar Hamid Khan has directed the operational teams to serve formal notices to all defaulting departments for immediate payment of their outstanding liabilities.

“The defaulters have been warned to clear their dues promptly, failing which strict action will be taken.

“The proposed measures include the imposition of heavy fines and disconnection of electricity supply to the concerned departments,” it said.

It said that Water and Sanitation Services Peshawar has been issued notices for non-payment of Rs336m, primary schools Rs542m, higher secondary schools and colleges Rs157m, middle schools Rs93m, Peshawar Development Authority Rs110m, Kohat Development Authority Rs96m, health department Rs134m, tehsil municipal administration Town-1 Peshawar (streetlights) Rs293 million, WSSC Kohat Rs170m, Auqaf department Rs40m, prisons department Rs34m, environment department Rs3.29m, railways Rs31.23m, National Highway Authority Rs8.74m, income tax department Rs8.73m, Pakistan Post Office Rs4.58m, SNGPL Rs1.47 million and University of Peshawar Rs4.6m.
