LAHORE, May 2: Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi on Tuesday denied reports that he was a candidate for the slot of prime minister. According to a handout issued here, he said such reports were merely based on speculations.

He said the country was making worthwhile progress in all the spheres of life under Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz’s leadership.

He said he enjoyed excellent relations with the prime minister and acknowledged that Mr Aziz always guided the province on various development matters.

Meanwhile, Lahore Nazim Mian Amir Mahmood, who is also the PML senior vice-president, called on the chief minister and submitted a report regarding the party re-organisation.

He said 1,922 primary units of the PML had been constituted in Lahore and about 150,000 new members registered. The chief minister directed Mian Amir to complete elections of the party’s Lahore chapter within a month in a “transparent manner and in accordance with the principles of democracy.” —Staff Reporter
