HARIPUR: A married woman was found dead in the canal of Khanpur Dam, police said.

However, no mark of assault or torture was found on the body by the doctors.

On March 7, a woman drowned in the canal, with her family accusing her in-laws of killing her.

The police said that residents spotted the body of a woman in the left bank canal of Khanpur dam and informed the police and rescue personnel who shifted it to the tehsil headquarters hospital.

The deceased was identified by her relatives around two hours later as the police disseminated the information about her recovery with pictures on the social media.

SHO of the Khanpur police station Haroon Khan told Dawn that the woman was later identified as Rashna Khan, 35, a resident of Darra Dada Shaheed village.

According to the officer, the woman was a mother of four minor children who accompanied children to the school but didn’t return.

A doctor who was part of the postmortem team told Dawn that the circumstantial evidence showed that the cause of death was drowning. He, however, said samples from the body had been sent to the forensic lab for detailed analysis.

Meanwhile, father of the deceased Mohammad Javed, a resident of Dingi village, has alleged murder and blamed it on his son-in-law, Faisal Zaman.

On his complaint, the police registered a murder case against Zaman. However, the accused is still at large.
