KARACHI, May 2: Central Information Secretary of Pakistan People’s Party Sherry Rehman has rejected the results of NA-219 Hyderabad by-elections owing to alleged rigging. The decision was announced by the PPP MNA through an emergency announcement from the Bilawal House.
Ms Rehman, who monitored the election process and received reports from Hyderabad, sent the details of alleged unprecedented rigging to the Chief Election Commissioner.
The PPP leader informed the CEC several times to utilize his powers to ensure free and fair by-elections, but there was no word of action from the CEC, thus she made the announcement about the rejection of by-election results after consulting the Sindh President, Syed Qaim Ali Shah.
She alleged that the election process was actually conducted under the supervision of the governor and the home department.
Sherry Rehman made it clear that Chief Election Commissioner and Provincial Election Commissioner had assured the PPP that there would no interference from the provincial government and that people would be allowed to cast their vote without any fear or duress.
However, ironic is the fact that the provincial and district governments misused state machinery to steal away the elections.
