CHITTAGONG, May 2: The average price of Bangladesh teas leaped more than 108 per cent to 93.25 taka ($1.34) per kg at the opening auction of the season on Tuesday, brokers said.

The average price at the final auction of the previous season (April-March) held on March 14, was 44.73 taka per kg.

“Nearly 626,622 kg, that is 96 per cent of the offerings, were sold following strong demand,” a market report by the National Brokers Limited said.

Despite the absence of overseas buyers, the first auction of the season was encouraging, with different grades sold between 78 taka and 160 taka per kg.
