LAKKI MARWAT: The police arrested scores of suspected criminals, including drug peddlers, during a search and strike operation in parts of Bannu district on Saturday.

An official said in Mandan area, the police arrested five drug traffickers during raids on their hideouts. He said the arrested men included Samiullah, Hasnain, Arshad, Sajjad and Yasir. “The law enforcers seized over five kilogrammes hashish from them.”

The official said DSP Khanan led an operation in Domel and Township areas, wherein several suspects were arrested, and two AK-47 rifles, two Kalakov rifles, three pistols, a rifle and ammunition were seized from them.

The official said cases were registered against the arrested men.

MEDICAL CAMP: The management of a local cement factory will hold a three-day heart screening camp for residents of Lakki Marwat on its premises in Darra Pezu town here.

Medical experts from Tabba Heart Institute, a leading name in cardiac healthcare, will provide services at the camp from April 15 to 17.

An official of the cement production unit asked the people, especially those suffering from heart ailments, to visit the camp to avail essential heart health services such as ECGs, cholesterol checks, blood pressure monitoring, and consultations with qualified cardiologists.

ROAD REPAIRS: The provincial government has provided Rs90 million for repair and maintenance of roads in Lakki Marwat, claims MPA Johar Mohammad Khan.

The PTI lawmaker, who is the chairman of district development advisory committee, told Dawn on Saturday that the provincial government had set aside Rs50 million for repair of Darra Tang-Chashma Road, while Rs30 million would be spent on Dallokhel Phatak-Lakki city section of Tajazai-Darra Tang Road.

He said repair and maintenance work on Manjiwala Chowk-Lakki city road would be completed with cost of Rs10 million.

In a separate development, a teenage boy was shot at and injured in front of his father in Nawerkhel area on Saturday.

Police said Naveedullah, 16, was attacked when he was going to the village along with his father, Mohammad Ayub.

They said the attackers, Ramzan and his brother Waseeullah escaped the scene, while the boy was transported to the Government City Hospital.

The boy told police the assailants snatched a pistol from his father, fired at him and fled the place on a motorcycle.

He said Ramzan would force him for friendship but he refused.
