ISTANBUL, May 1: Pakistan and Turkey have agreed to enhance cooperation in the fight against terrorism, Interior Minister Aftab Sherpao said on Monday.

“A security delegation from Turkey will soon visit Islamabad to train Pakistani security personnel,” he told APP. He said the two countries have suffered from terrorism and that is why they have decided to cooperate with each other to fight this scourge.

“We want to benefit from Turkey’s experience in the fight against terror. Pakistani police personnel have already trained here.”

He said people from Turkish security will train Pakistanis in the use of computer technology.

To a question about illegal Pakistanis going to Europe through Iran and Turkey, he said these two countries along with Pakistan and Greece have tightened security at the borders which has curbed this trend to a great extent.

Mr Sherpao is on a visit to Turkey on the invitation of his counterpart Abdul Qadir Aksu.

He lauded Turkey’s help towards earthquake relief efforts and said the Turks were still continuing their work in quake-devastated areas of Pakistan.

“In fact I am visiting this country to thank its people and the government for their wonderful work that they have carried out in quake-hit areas of Pakistan,” Sherpao added.—APP
