SHEIKHUPURA, April 30: Led by District Police Officer Muhammad Aslam Tareen, the Sheikhupura police arrested late Saturday night 14 proclaimed offenders from a no-go area in Islamnagar, the most troubled spot in the district. The DPO told journalists that several people of the Mustafa and Farman groups had lost their lives and dozens injured due to an old enmity.

He said that ring leaders of both groups hired services of proclaimed offenders and criminals to settle their old score. He said that frequent armed clashes between the two groups had made the lives of area people miserable.

Mr Tareen said the police raided the area and arrested armed men the majority of whom were involved in murder, attempt to murder, police encounter and other crimes of heinous nature.

Those arrested were: Ahmad Ali, Shahbaz, Shaukat alias Shoka, Fayyaz and Asghar Ali of the Mustafa group and Falak Sher, Mashkoor, Muhammad Ali, Ranjha, Zakar, Zahid Ali, Usama, Sabir and Shah Muhammad of the Farman group.

He said the police also recovered a large number of weapons, including two 244 bore rifles and cartridges, from the possession of criminals.

MURDERED: Two people were murdered in Nankana Sahib on Sunday.

Pervez Masih axed his wife Sarfain to death over a domestic dispute in Chak 24 Kalan.

Amanat Ali on Noodha village, in the jurisdiction of Shahkot police, was shot dead by some unknown assailants.
