ISLAMABAD: In an important step toward enhancing Pakistan’s mining and minerals sector, a Danish company, FLSmidth, was set to launch a training programme for 100 Pakistani engineers during the upcoming Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum scheduled for April 8-9.

A statement issued here said that the Federal Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik, met with the Ambassador of Denmark to Pakistan, Jakob Linulf, at the Petroleum Division to discuss bilateral cooperation in the energy and mining sectors. The meeting underscored the importance of Danish expertise in modernizing Pakistan’s mineral development through technological collaboration.

FLSmidth, a global leader in sustainable mining technology, was recognized for its role in revolutionizing mining operations. The company’s expertise in cement production, mineral processing, and decarbonization aligns with Pakistan’s goals of increasing efficiency and reducing the environmental impact of extractive industries.

The training initiative, known as the Bradshaw Research Initiative for Minerals and Mining(BRIMM)programme, will provide Pakistani engineers with specialized skills to enhance mining operations in the country.

Minister Malik emphasized Pakistan’s commitment to attracting foreign investment and leveraging advanced technology for sustainable resource extraction. He assured full government support to facilitate Danish investments and partnerships in the sector.

Ambassador Linulf reaffirmed Denmark’s support to Pakistan’s industrial development and energy transition, highlighting Denmark’s growing engagement in the Pakistani market. He noted that FLSmidth has already established five partnership agreements in the country’s mineral sector and expressed enthusiasm for future collaborations.

Additionally, the statement said that the Danish shipping giant Maersk had pledged a $2 billion investment in Pakistan’s deep-sea port infrastructure, focusing on ship recycling and ship refueling with green ammonia, further strengthening economic ties between the two nations.

During the meeting the two sides committed to enhancing engagement between Pakistani stakeholders and Danish technology providers, positioning FLSmidth as a key player in advancing modern mining practices in Pakistan.
