SHANGLA: A dejected young man and a woman have allegedly died by suicide, the police said here on Monday.

An official at the Karora police station said the father of the deceased woman, who allegedly ended her life on March 11, reported the other day that he had gone away for preaching when he received information from the family about the death of his daughter in Sory Drad village of Shahpur.

“When I came back home, I was told by the relatives that she had died of cardiac arrest. However, I had doubts,” he said in the complaint lodged with the police.

He said his daughter was married seven months ago but was not happy with her husband, due to which she had come back to his parents’ house.

The deceased woman’s father demanded exhumation of his daughter’s body to ascertain the real cause of her death.

The police official said the initial investigation revealed that the young woman was married off against her will. They said the man she liked also ended his life a few days after her death (on March 19). The official said the deceased man’s medical report suggested he shot himself dead with a pistol.

Meanwhile, a boy accidentally shot his 11-year-old sister dead before Sehr on Monday in Chichlo area of Shangla, the police said.

Karora police station SHO Amjad Alam Khan told Dawn that the girl had gone to the rooftop to bring firewood to prepare food for Sehr. “In the meanwhile, her brother got up and went to the rooftop suspecting a thief and opened fire,” he said, adding that the girl died on the spot.
