ISLAMABAD, April 27: An Under-16 team will be selected in a couple of days to represent Islamabad in the International Street-football League being held at the German city of Munich in June.

The League, a festival type activity with more than a dozen cities from around the world participating, will run from June 1 to 11--coinciding with the World Cup football tournament to be held in Germany from June 9 to July 9.

The trials will be held on Saturday-Sunday to select the team which will take part alongside teams from such cities as London, Paris, Brazilia (Brazil) and Mumbai.

A “Streetfootball” team comprises five Under-16 players while its field is half the size of a normal ground of football.

The matches in Munich will be played at two pedestrian thoroughfares in the German city with Mayor Christian Ude to lend full support.

Star goalkeeper of German national team, Oliver Kahn, is the Patron of “Buntkicktgut” — the NGO-type body which arranges Under-16 “Streetfootball” in Munich annually.

The Islamabad team will be sponsored by Islamabad Football Association, the IFA President, Dr. Fazalur Rehman, told reporters.-—APP
