RAWALPINDI: A former employee of Wapda was found dead on Sunday night in Rawat police area, but initial reports suggest he has been poisoned.

Mohammad Naeem, stepson of the deceased Sabaz Ali, lodged a complaint with the Rawat police that he was in Peshawar when he received a call from his family that his father had left his house at 10 am on Saturday but did not return till the sun set. He said that after waiting for some time, he returned to Rawalpindi and went straight to the police station to seek police help in tracing his father as his mobile phone was also switched off.

He further said that on Sunday morning, he received a phone call from the police station which told him that an unidentified body of a man was found lying in Rawat area. On receiving the phone call, he and police went to the scene and found a body covered with a sheet of cloth lying there.

He identified it as that of his stepfather whose mouth was stuffed with cotton, and a shoe and his motorcycle were missing.

However, his mobile phone and purse were seized by the police.

When contacted, he told Dawn that according to initial findings of doctors at DHQ hospital, the deceased was poisoned as there were no torture mark or bullet injuries on his body except for the blood oozing out of his mouth.

He said that his father had no enmity with anybody, however, the police have launched an investigation on different lines.

Meanwhile, a man who was in his 60s was gunned down by his rival over a land dispute in the Jatli area, police said on Monday.

Kaleemullah, a resident of Gujar Khan, lodged an FIR with the Jatli police saying that his father Gulfraz was standing with his relative on his land where Irfan came and challenged his father saying that he will teach him a lesson and he opened fire on him and escaped.

He said that his father succumbed to his injuries while being shifted to hospital.
