LAHORE: The Meteorological Department has forecast heavy rainfall across parts of Pakistan at the beginning of Ramazan.

According to the department, intense rainfall and snowfall are expected in mountainous areas on Sunday and Monday.

Punjab will experience heavy downpours. Murree, Galiyat, and other hilly areas are also likely to receive rain and snow, while Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s plains and mountainous regions will see rain and snowfall until Tuesday. Authorities in the relevant districts have been alerted.

Continental air is prevailing over most parts of the country. A shallow westerly trough is affecting extreme northern parts of the country. A fresh westerly wave is likely to approach western parts of the country on Sunday.

Cold and dry weather is expected in most districts of the Punjab province on Sunday. Light rain with wind-thunderstorm is expected in Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Faisalabad, Jhang, Bhakkar, Toba Tek Singh, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali and surroundings during evening/night. Cloudy weather with chances of rain-wind/thunderstorm snowfall is expected in Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat and surroundings during night.

On Monday, wind-thunderstorm is expected in Rawalpindi, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Mandi Bahauddin, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Lahore, Sialkot, Narowal, Okara, Sheikhupura, Hafizabad, Faisalabad, Jhang, Tob Tek Singh, Sahiwal, Sargodha, Khushab, Mianwali, Bhakkar and Layyah. Intermittent rain wind/thunderstorm snow (isolated heavy falls/snowfall) is expected in Kashmir, Murree, Galliyat and surroundings. Isolated hailstorms are also likely during the period. Cold and dry weather is expected in other districts of the Punjab.
