RAWALPINDI: Two robbers were killed while two others escaped after an alleged encounter with a police team during the early hours of Saturday morning within the Naseerabad police station’s jurisdiction in Rawalpindi.

According to a spokesman for the Rawalpindi police, alleged robbers riding two motorcycles opened fire at policemen when stopped for a check.

“In the retaliatory fire by the police, two of them were injured. Both later succumbed to their injuries while being shifted to the hospital,” he said.

The other two fled the scene while firing at the police, he added.

“A bullet fired by the robbers hit Constable Waseem Abbas, who, however, remained safe due to his bulletproof jacket.”

The deceased individuals were identified as Salman and Khalil.

The spokesperson said the motorcycle recovered from the possession of the accused was snatched during a robbery a few days ago.

The robbers allegedly opened fire during the incident and killed a citizen named Shah Faisal Khan, he said.

Senior police officers reached the spot soon after the incident. A search was underway to arrest the absconding accused.
