KARACHI: The city administration on Friday fixed new prices for meat and other edible items in the advent of the holy month of Ramazan, posing a challenge for the authorities, who have yet to fully enforce the previously notified prices for several essential items, especially beef and mutton, in many parts of the metropolis.

The decision was taken at a meeting chaired by Commissioner Syed Hassan Naqvi and attended among others by deputy commissioners, officials of Bureau of Prices and Supply and other stakeholders.

The price of ‘A’ category qeema samosa (weight 35 grams with mince) was fixed at Rs35 and ‘B’ category samosa at Rs30 per piece, while ‘A’ category potato samosa (60 grams) at Rs35 and ‘B’ category at Rs130.

The price of ‘A’ category mixed fritters (pakoras) was fixed at Rs600 per kilogramme and ‘B’ category at Rs500 per kg.

The price of ‘A’ category jalebi was fixed at Rs500 per kg and ‘B’ category at Rs430 per kg.

The administration fixed price of boneless beef at Rs950 per kg and beef with bones at Rs750 per kg. The price of boneless heifer meat was fixed at Rs1,150 per kg and meats with bones at Rs1,000 per kg.

The price of mutton was fixed at Rs2,000 per kg.

The commissioner also fixed the prices of pulses and rice.
