LAHORE: The Punjab home department has constituted a law reforms committee to modernise archaic criminal laws to enhance crime control mechanism, ensure effective law enforcement and safeguard good governance.

The committee, convened by DIG Police Kamran Adil, has additional secretary (Judicial) home department Imran Hussain Ranjha, deputy director law department Muhammad Younis, Additional Advocate General Hassan Khalid, a representative of the Prosecutor General Punjab and any other member(s) to be co-opted by the committee. Mr Ranjha will also act as the secretary to the committee.

The law reforms committee has been assigned the task to prepare and recommend draft amendments for the Code of Criminal Procedure 1898, Pakistan Penal Code 1860, and Qanun-e-Shahadat Order 1984.

It has also been instructed to recommend legal reforms for legislation relating to law enforcement, crime prevention and maintenance of public order.

The committee has been assigned a task to propose a draft National Security Law and amendments to the laws about counter terrorism, cyber crime, cyber security and inter-provincial coordination, suggest modifications in legal enactments regarding safety and protection of women and children in Punjab.

Proposed amendments to the laws to be aligned with modern legal, technological and socio-political developments.

The LRC shall submit its report to the home department within three months of issuance of this notification.
