LAHORE: A policeman was killed on Tuesday due to alleged torture by some lawyers outside a special court of the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in the Mozang area.

According to police, assistant sub-inspectors Muhammad Shahid and Jamil from Shadbagh Police Station conducted a raid to arrest an absconding suspect, Adeel, involved in a cheque-dishonor case.

During the operation, lawyers of the suspect, along with their associates, attacked the police officials who were arresting Adeel outside the FIA court when the attackers intervened. ASI Shahid was severely injured in the alleged assault by the lawyers and fainted. He succumbed to his injuries on way to a hospital.

IGP Dr Usman Anwar took notice of the incident and sought a report from the CCPO. He also directed the DIG Operations to ensure immediate arrest of those involved in the attack.

Meanwhile, SSP Investigation Muhammad Naveed visited the crime scene and the mortuary to inspect the body of the deceased. He instructed the Civil Lines SP to submit an inquiry report on the incident without a delay.
