HYDERABAD, April 20: A 24-year-old woman has been remanded to the custody of Okara Saddar Police by Civil Judge and Judicial Magistrate-III, along with her husband and brother-in-law, and police have been directed to produce them before the concerned court on April 22.

The woman, Aruna, who is daughter of a retired civil judge, screamed in the court building, saying she faced a threat to her life if she was sent to Okara. She said she had been living with her husband of her own free will and that she had not been abducted as alleged by her father in an FIR lodged against her, her husband and his brother with Okara Saddar Police.

According to SHO Salman Farooqui of the B-Section Police Station here, a team of police personnel from Okara arrested the woman’s husband Moazzam, an employee of Pakistan Telecommunication Company, and his brother Junaid in connection with the FIR registered under the Hudood Ordinance, alleging abduction of the woman.

The accused were kept in a lock-up and after about an hour, the SHO said, Aruna appeared before him and said that she needed protection because her relatives were in Hyderabad to take her back to Okara. She said she had married Moazzam of her own free will. The girl was kept at the women’s police station under protective custody.

On Thursday, the three were produced before the civil judge who remanded them to the custody of Okara Saddar Police.

The woman told a group of journalists gathered in the court that she had married Moazzam on August 11 last year.

“I have not been abducted by Moazzam, I married him of my own will,” screamed Aruna while imploring people gathered there to help her.
