KHYBER: Speakers at an awareness session urged authorities to expedite process of ongoing land registration while apprising locals of the benefits of proper land revenue system.

Organised by Landi Kotal Press Club on Thursday, the session was attended by chairman local government Shah Khalid Shinwari and representatives of political parties, local elders and civil society members.

Speaking on the occasion, Shah Khalid said that most of the issues confronted by locals pertained to ownership of land as there was no proper revenue record with the local patwaries (revenue officials).

He said that land settlement registration in merged districts was need of the hour as it was an integral part of Fata merger with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa through the 25th Amendment.

He also called upon locals to cooperate with land settlement staff to make the process more transparent and acceptable to everyone.

Zarbullah Shinwari, another speaker, said that a transparent land settlement registration would entitle every resident of his or her legitimate ownership of the land or commercial property while it would also minimise land and property related disputes and litigations.
