ISLAMABAD: The upgrade process of the Islamabad Police Cyber Crime Unit has been initiated under directives of Inspector General of Police (IGP), Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi.

Police said on Thursday that IG Islamabad had issued orders at the conference of operational commanders for transparent and merit-based handling and prosecution of cyber crime cases.

In this regard, instructions were also issued to transfer the Cyber Crime Unit to Safe City to enhance technical facilities. To further improve capacity, senior police officers have been appointed to the Cyber Crime Unit.

The implementation of Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) has been introduced to make the monitoring mechanism more effective. Experts in inquiry, investigation, and support staff have been appointed to specialised areas.

Senior police officers, instead of juniors, will now handle the investigation of cybercrime cases. Furthermore, a special counter has been established in Safe City Islamabad for the convenience of citizens.

The IG said that Islamabad police is committed to eliminating cybercrime in the federal capital and is focused on the policy of achieving the best possible standards across all sectors.

He further added that police is utilizing all available resources to ensure the safety of citizens’ lives and property and aligning its officers with modern demands.
