KARACHI: A man, who was reportedly kidnapped for ransom over the weekend, was found murdered in his own apartment in Kaneez Fatima Society on Wednesday, police said.

Sachal SHO Aurangzeb Khattak said that the body of 34-year-old Iqbal Ahmed was recovered from a drum at the apartment on a lead provided by a held relative of the victim.

Anti-Violent Crime Cell (AVCC) SSP Aneel Haider said Ahmed was kidnapped on Jan 19 and an FIR was registered the next day. When the family received a ransom call, the case was transferred to the AVCC for investigation.

He said with the help of technology, the police arrested suspect Rameez, who is the husband of a sister of the victim’s wife.

During the probe, the suspect revealed that he, along with his accomplice, had killed Ahmed at his flat in Kaneez Fatima and dumped the body in a drum. Later, he said, they made a phone call to the family to demand ransom.

The SSP said the body bore torture marks and that the police were waiting for the doctors’ report to ascertain the possible cause of death and time.
