NORTH WAZIRISTAN: An official of the police’s Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) was martyred when unidentified persons opened fire at him in Mirali Bazaar on Wednesday, the police said.

They said Shaminullah, a resident of Spinwam area, who was performing duty in Miramshah, was shopping in the bazaar when unidentified masked men opened fire at him, killing him on the spot.

The police said that the body was shifted for Mirali Hospital for postmortem.

Meanwhile, five persons of a family, including three children, were injured when a mortar shell landed on a house in Mirali.

Police sources said that on Tuesday night, militants attacked security checkposts in Harmuz and Hasokhel villages.

They added that an exchange of fire took place between the militants and security forces.

They said that several mortar shells landed near houses, and one of them struck a house, leaving two women and three children injured.

Locals said that they shifted the injured persons to Mirali Hospital. They added that the firing was so intense that the local residents had to vacate their houses and shift to safer places.
