ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Navy seized a large cache of narcotics, said to be worth about $1 million, during a counter-narcotics operation in the North Arabian Sea.

The narcotics were being smuggled via a sea route to international destinations.

During the operation, the navy ship Moawin, supported by the navy air assets, successfully intercepted a dhow, conducted boarding operations, and apprehended the narcotics, which were stowed in a hidden compartment of the vessel.

“The successful execution of this anti-narcotics operation demonstrates Pakistan Navy’s vigilance, professionalism, and resolve to deter and disrupt all illegal activities, ensuring good order at sea. The seized narcotics are estimated to be worth approximately $1 million in international market,” an official statement added.

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Thursday extended appreciation to the Pakistan Navy for conducting a successful anti-narcotics operation at sea, according to the APP.

“This is a very significant milestone in the anti-narcotics campaign,” the prime minister said in a press statement issued by the PM office.

He said the navy played a central role in preventing drug smuggling on the country’s maritime defence and sea routes.

“The nation is proud of the personnel of the Pakistan Navy,” the prime minister added.
