KARACHI: A traffic police official, who was held for running over a man and killing him during a car accident in Clifton, was remanded in police custody on Thursday.

The traffic police official was identified as Shahid Hingoro.

He was arrested on the spot and a case was registered against him under Sections 320 (murder) and 427 (mischief causing damage to the amount of fifty rupees) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

According to the FIR, complainant Arbab Ali informed the police that his uncle Ayub Sethar, 55, used to drive a Suzuki pick-up to earn a livelihood.

The complainant disclosed that near the KPT underpass, the traffic police official’s vehicle (an SUV) hit a Suzuki pick-up.

The Suzuki driver’s front screen was hit and because of the impact he was injured by broken glasses, resulting in his death.

The IO sought the suspect’s custody for interrogation.
