ISLAMABAD: Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police Syed Ali Raza suspended two policewomen and ordered an inquiry against them after they allegedly manhandled a rider over delay in delivering a parcel.

According to the order issued from the DIG office, the lady constables of Islamabad police are hereby placed under suspension with immediate effect until further orders due to misconduct.

A police officer told Dawn that the two policewomen were deployed at a Church in G-7 for security duty in connection with the Christmas celebrations. The service of the rider was hired and asked to pick a laptop of one of them from her residence in G-10 and deliver at a shop in Blue Area to get device repaired, he added.

The rider picked the parcel, but the delivery was delayed, the officer said.

As per the rider’s version, since his mobile phone’s battery is dead his phone was switched off, the officer said, adding that after reaching Blue Area he recharged his mobile phone’s battery.

Later, he called one of the constables, and in response she started abusing him with extremely foul language, the officer quoted the rider as saying, adding that the two lady constables reached the location of the rider in Blue Area and one of them pulled out her pistol and held him at gunpoint. Besides, they also manhandled him.

The lady constables, however, said after 30 to 45 minutes, they made multiple calls to the rider as the parcel was yet to be delivered, but his mobile phone was found switched off.

Later, the call was connected and the rider misbehaved when he was questioned about the delay, the officer quoting the lady policewomen said.

The two policewomen later traced his location through his mobile phone numbers (SIM and IEMI) and after reaching the spot traced his motorcycle through it registration number and waited for him.

After knowing that the women who hired his services were policewomen the rider created the drama, the officer added.

When the matter was brought to the notice of DIG Raza he suspended the two lady constables and formed an inquiry committee to investigate the matter and fix the responsibility.
