OKARA, April 16: A robber was killed while two constables sustained injuries during an encounter on Saturday night on Okara-Deepalpur Road near Chak 32/2.L.

Police said two motorcyclists Amir of Chak 27/2-L and Saleem of Chak 55/2-L were on their way to Okara from Deepalpur. Near Darbar stop, three armed men, who were looting passersby, stopped the two friends as well. They snatched Rs5,300 in cash, tied them with a rope and threw them in a nearby field.

Receiving information, DPO Malik Tahir Mehmood sent a police party which was headed by Sadar SHO Saifur Rehman, Renala Sadar SHO Malik Shakeel and Renala City SHO Rana Naseer Khan. On seeing police, outlaws opened fire on law enforcers which was returned promptly. Consequently, a dacoit, identified as Liaquat Ali alias Mirza, died on the spot while his two accomplices managed to escape in the darkness. While constables Rafaqat and Liaquat, who also received bullet wounds, were admitted to hospital. The deceased dacoit was wanted in 13 cases of heinous crimes.

Meanwhile, the DPO recommended commendation certificates and cash prizes for the raiding party.

KILLED: A trader was killed and his nephew injured in an accident on Okara-Faisalabad Road on Saturday night.

Haji Shaukat Ali along with his nephew was returning from Faisalabad by his wagon. Near Nemat Ghee factory, the wagon collided with a speeding trailer coming from the opposite side. Shaukat Ali died instantly while his nephew sustained serious injuries. He was shifted to the local DHQ Hospital.
